Mauricio is a lecturer in the Comparative Media Studies/Writing Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He teaches a comprehensive course on comic book creation. Drawing Comics CMS.S60 is a hands-on introduction to writing and creating comics and sequential art. Students learn how to: find a premise, develop a storyline and plot; write a script; develop character; structure stories; and understand the specifics of sequential language, composition, and layout.

Mauricio also  lectures in various other courses at MIT, conferences, universities and is currently working on his first full length graphic novel Be Still, Dirt Hill which he began under the mentorship of Phoebe Gloeckner as an artist is residence at the ACA in Florida.

He is the Editor in Chief and founder of BORDERx: A Crisis in Graphic Detail which documented the border crisis and migrant issues during the Tr██p administration. Notable contributors include US Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Peter Kuper (Spy Vs. Spy, The Metamorphosis, Ruins), Tom Hart (Hutch Owen, Rosalie Lightning), David Lasky (The Carter Family) Donna Barr (The Desert Peach), Dr. Warren Binford, Michael Bochenek Sr. Council Children’s Division of Human Rights Watch, Walter Alice Sickert (The Army of Broken Toys) and over 70 contributors from around the globe.

With a background in fine arts, illustration, graphic design and printmaking he is available to lecture or offer training in a variety of creative disciplines and for illustration services.
